Biltmore Forest Police & Public Works Master Plan

Town of Biltmore Forest
Biltmore Forest, NC

Biltmore Forest is a historic town nestled between the Biltmore Estate, and the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. With a population of approximately 1,343 residents and covering 2.9 square miles, the town is committed to providing essential public services, including police, public works, water, zoning, and sanitation.

DP3 Architects had the privilege of partnering with Biltmore Forest on a Police & Public Works Master Plan to explore options to improve or replace the town’s aging facilities. Potential site options were investigated, and the study resulted in conceptual designs that blend functionality with the town’s architectural identity. The plan includes two primary buildings:

  • A new police department facilities building, housing essential services such as dispatch, training facilities, locker rooms, offices, and support spaces. This building will serve as the hub for police operations in the town, designed with efficiency and security in mind.
  • A new public works fleet maintenance building, featuring fleet maintenance bays, conditioned storage, a vehicle wash bay, and additional support structures like material bins, a fuel pump, and salt bin storage. This facility is crucial for maintaining the town’s fleet and supporting public works operations.

The proposed designs draw inspiration from the steeply pitched roofs, Tudor beams, mullioned windows, masonry chimneys, and cross gables that are characteristic of Biltmore Forest’s architectural heritage. The designs emphasize natural light and a connection to the surrounding tree canopy, ensuring that the buildings not only meet functional requirements but also enhance the natural beauty of the area. The result is a master plan that represents a thoughtful and strategic approach to improving the town’s public facilities, ensuring they are prepared to serve the community’s needs both now and in the future.
