Mount Pleasant Waterworks
Mount Pleasant, SC

Mount Pleasant Waterworks (MPW) provides water and wastewater services to the town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Established in 1935, MPW ensures the delivery of clean drinking water and manages wastewater treatment for the community.

The vibrant coastal community of Mount Pleasant, SC has experienced significant growth and development in recent years. With an increasing population and expanding infrastructure, MPW partnered with DP3 Architects to do a feasibility study for a new fleet maintenance facility to serve the growing operation.

The study resulted in a design that includes a new one-story fleet maintenance facility totaling approximately 23,000 SF adjacent to the current MPW Operations Center. The facility consists of 3 heavy-duty maintenance bays, 4 light-duty bays, a fabrication bay, and a vehicle wash bay along with administrative offices and support space, plus associated site development.

A future phase will include repurposing the current fleet/maintenance area located at the Operations Center to allow for the expansion of the current inventory warehouse.  The project will be completed under the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) Project Delivery Method with Hood Construction providing pre-construction and construction services.

A well-designed public works campus is essential for efficient community operations, enhancing productivity, and safety. At DP3 Architects, we implement strategies for facility optimization while integrating many of today’s design trends and safety measures to maximize available funding. The MPW facility will function as both “toolbox” and “jewel box” to meet the functional requirements of the department, enhance employee recruitment and retention, and serve as a source of pride for MPW and the community.

Construction of the new fleet maintenance facility is expected to be completed by January 2026.
