Cherokee County Animal Shelter

Gaffney, SC

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is a new 13,750 SF facility with capacity to house 164 dogs and 70 cats – a marked increase compared to the previous shelter that held 28 dogs and 24 cats. The new shelter accepts strays, surrendered, and lost and found animals in addition to offering adoption services through the Humane Society. The space includes kennels, exam rooms, front and animal control offices, a cat condo area, a “meet and greet” space during the adoption process, and outdoor green space for the animals to play and socialize.

The Community Studio designed the building to feature a clean and modern look. The design incorporates playful colors, graphics and interior details that create a bright and joyful space. Overall, the new shelter allows the County to accommodate their current and future capacity needs in a state-of-the-art, contemporary facility that incorporates the latest concepts in animal housing and shelter design.
